'Pistons Killer All-Star': Which non-star players are causing big trouble for the Pistons?

"Pistons Killer All-Stars": Which non-All-Stars are causing big trouble for the Detroit Pistons?

Every NBA fan knows that a player, or multiple players , will bring nightmares to the team. I'm not talking about LeBron James, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Luka Doncic, or any other top NBA player who could threaten the entire league. I'm talking about some random rotation player who always seems to have a great career when he faces your team. Yeah, Marvin Williams.

In Detroit, Williams was once the ultimate "Piston killer", the forward's first 41 games against the Pistons, shooting Out of 46.1% 3-point shooting. Also, in 2018, Williams had a true shooting percentage of 59.8 against the Pistons, the most against any Eastern Conference team. To this day, Pistons fans still worry about Williams' sudden appearance on the opposing team's roster.

In 2018, I formed two "Piston Killer All-Star" teams. The first team has some of the top players in the league, and they often have stellar performances against the Detroit Pistons. The second team consists of the players I mentioned above: rotation players that can become Hall of Famers when playing against the Pistons. Four years later, it's time to make a new list.

Here is the latest from the Pistons Killer All-Star team. This time, I'm listing only one roster, and the entire roster is made up of players who never made the All-Star Game, which is my only request. It also makes this list more interesting.

To create this team, I used's "Game Score" data to determine which players have Has played well against the Pistons this season. Using that point as a starting point, I began to search for players who were on the roster more than once, and then drilled down to see how they played against the Pistons.

Here is the list

Terry -Rozier, Charlotte Hornets

For the past few seasons, "Terror Terry" gave Motor City brought some fear.

On Feb. 11, the veteran guard had 25 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds against the Pistons triple-double data. Less than two weeks later, Rozier had 33 points on 12-of-21 shooting in an overtime loss to the Detroit Pistons. In May 2021, Rozier made a wild shot from beyond the arc in the Hornets' win over the Pistons, scoring 29 points on 8-of-15 three-pointers.

Over the course of his career, the 28-year-old has averaged 13.5 points per game against the Pistons. That score is the third-highest average of any NBA team that Rozier has played against at least 15 times in his career.

This season, the Pistons ended one of the most embarrassing losing streaks in the NBA: a 15-game losing streak against the Hornets. Rozier has been with the Hornets since 2019, and his brilliance is one of the big reasons the Hornets haven't lost to the Pistons over the past few seasons.

Alec Burks, Detroit Pistons

"If you can't stop him, go get him." Isn't that so?

Berks is now a Pistons player and has scored very well against the Pistons over the years. Burks, who played for the Knicks in December 2021, scored 34 points on 12-of-17 shooting in the team's win over the Pistons, which remains the veteran's career high so far. As a member of the Warriors in January 2020, Burks scored 27 points on 14 of 14 free throws from the line, you guessed it, the best performance of his career at the free throw line.

In his career game against the Detroit Pistons, Burks shot 39.6 percent from 3-point range and 59.4 true shooting percentage %, his third-best score against any NBA opponent.

Kelly Oubre Jr., Charlotte Hornets

Given how the Hornets have dominated Detroit the past few seasons, it's not surprising that another Hornets player is on this list.

Oubre recently had an outrageous, unexpected outburst against the Pistons; The 26-year-old wing shot 9-of-14 with 32, and in case you forget, Oubre made eight 3-pointers in the fourth quarter. In 2020, Oubre scored 30 points on 11-for-19 shooting against the Pistons as a member of the Suns.

During his career, Oubre averaged 13.7 points on a 59.8 true shooting percentage against the Pistons. Both stats would rank him in the top five against NBA teams.

Norman Powell, Los Angeles Clippers

The Raptors didn’t take much advantage against the Pistons when Powell was still playing, but the 29-year-old still made a lot for the Pistons trouble.

Powell scored a career-high 43 points against the Pistons in March 2021. In that game, Powell went 14 of 18 from the field and 8 of 12 from 3-point range. The Pistons took the game, but Powell stole the show. That same month, Powell again scored 36 points on 14-for-20 shooting against the Pistons (the Pistons won again, though). That month, Powell's points per game skyrocketed.

Here's Powell's career (18 games) shooting performance against the Pistons: 51% from the field, 37% from 3-point range Shooting percentage and 85.3 percent from the free throw line. He's been a big concern for the Pistons over the past few years.

Clint Capela, Atlanta Hawks

Even if you factor in some of the players who are doing well right now, Capela has had some great performances against the Pistons over the past four seasons.

January 2021, Capela had 27 points and 26 rebounds in the team's win over the Pistons. As a center for the Houston Rockets in 2018, Capela had 29 points and 21 rebounds in the team's overtime loss to the Pistons. Capela scored 27 points and grabbed 15 rebounds in the Rockets' two-point win over the Pistons in November 2018. Capela is an excellent athlete. Considering the three performances above, though, the word excellent seems less appropriate.

In 14 career games against the Pistons, Capela averaged 13.4 points and 13.5 rebounds, making him Become the star player in the "Piston Killer All-Star" lineup.
